Going green isn’t rocket science. I promise. You don’t have to spend a lot of money, join a yoga class or eat kale chips every day (unless that’s your thing). Going green and living a more eco-glamorous lifestyle is simply about making small changes to protect our environment and our health so that it becomes an after thought.
Here are my suggestions for a few immediate things we can all do to live a little more green.
Ditch the paper towels – Paper towels are a tremendous waste of resources. It’s great to have a roll or two on hand for simple cleaning jobs but I find that I tend to use them frivolously throughout the day when they’re there. Cloth kitchen towels and bathroom... 3 Easy Ways to Green Up Your Life Now

Brown Eco-Bloggers I’m Currently Digging
Time has not been on my side I have to admit. While I’m in the process of hunting for an intern, heading to NYC for fashion week and trying to keep up with posting every day, I also try to take the time out to digest the wealth of information my fellow bloggers and aspiring journalists bless us with on a daily basis.
Here are my favorite new eco-bloggers that are writing, posting and capturing the beauty of going green. Hope you add them to your RSS feed and follow them on twitter. We can all benefit from their wisdom and adventures.
Enjoy…..
SavvyBrown.com – This blog caught my eye with great recipes and tips and tricks to make going green and organic cheap and chic. Documenting one woman’s journey... Demanding Excellence In Your Life
Me and my friend Jared graduating from FIT in '09
I’m one of those people that can elect to fake my way through life if I wanted. Without even trying, I can be good. Although I was always placed in the gifted programs in school, I never really spent any time studying or working to be excellent at anything. High school was a breeze. When I wasn’t running the school as class president, teaching dance or coming up with a last minute home work presentation on the bus ride to school (which I would always get an A), I enjoyed the freedom that mediocre greatness provided.
How many of you have that great personality, the gift of gab and enough intellect to not embarrass yourself in any task you have to complete? When... 24 Hours to Change the World
If everyone could be half as amazing as my friend Joi Sears, the world would be a much butter place. Seriously. The artist, activist, world traveler and my old neighbor during my days in Harlem, is on a mission to save the world and I’m doing my part by making her mission known to all of you.
Her organization – Theatre for the Free People – an organization that uses the arts as a vehicle for social change, is raising funds today to end world hunger.
Find them today on www.philanthroper.com . They only have ONE DAY ONLY to change the world and support their Food Justice Project.
For less than the cost of lunch (<$10) you can help eradicate World Hunger and educate youth all across the globe on how to grow and... How Are You Using Your Gifts?

Immediately after taking stock of what I’ve accomplished thus far in 2012 as it relates to my goals I realized a few things about myself. I am in fact a hater. I envy Beyonce’s seemingly unnatural talent and perfect body, one of my colleagues gorgeous locks that never seem to have a bad hair day and my best friend’s ability to stay simple and organized.
I’m impatient, unrealistic, a big dreamer which often leads to impulsive decisions, and often find myself in a frenzy of when and how to begin and complete projects within a timely manner. Those things that I don’t possess I find in others and tend to “hate” on them for their ability to not be me.
Slowly, I’m coming to terms with... The Paula Deen Mistake
Paula Deen I feel for you. I’m not upset that you’ve been parading around for years cooking some of the most sinful and delectable dishes. I’m not even upset that you’ve build an entire business off of what people love the most: food.
I do, however, believe that you had a responsibility to talk about your diet’s impact on your health. Type 2 diabetes? Really, Paula?
Tell the truth. Were any of you shocked by this news? Living a life of comfort food, butter, sugar and bacon, did you really expect anything less? Sure, I allow myself to cheat every now and again but with this recent news on Paula Deen’s health, I’m sure many folks will start to think twice about how they spend their... Surrounding Yourself With Beauty
A few nights ago I made my way through the Seattle snow and joined my friend Brittney in an afternoon of girl talk, red velvet cake indulgence and a plate of greens. In the middle of our evening pow-wow the popular show Love & Hip Hop came one. I’ve never seen it but have heard many a great deal about the ratchet behavior of the women on the show. Ultimately I elected to steer clear of the drama but tonight I had to watch.
Without being judgmental I felt a tremendous amount of sadness for many of these women who seem to be blinded by false realities of life. When you take away the status, the bling, the weave, the makeup, the drama, where do you stand as a woman? There is something to be said about self-respect, love and...
