I’m Tired of Looking Tired! Why Do I Get Dark Circles Under The Eyes? My mom calls them her raccoon mask, I just call them a nuisance (see photo above). I absolutely loathe the dark circles under my eyes that make me look tired, angry and just plain ole ugly. Before becoming an esthetician I tried everything from caffeine roll on eye gels, to spot removers and any other toxic brew that I could find on the shelf of the drug store for some relief. To no avail, I was left broke with eyes that still looked like I just recovered from a beat down. Some of the main causes for why we get these nasty little beauty blunders can include: Allergies Heredity Emotional stress Smoking Obssesive rubbing of the eyes But seriously, I understand that we as people of color have this pigmentation irregularity issue that...

Hair Crack is Wak! Dangers of Relaxer Addiction – Celebrity Stylist Felicia Leatherwood Shows Black Women How to Love Their Natural Hair I was a Just for Me girl, and experienced the wrath of the relaxer at least twice in my life. It was always the same story. My hair would be straight, shiny and swinging one week, and by the end of the year all my length would have fallen out or my hair so brittle all I could do was cry. I even had a small bald patch for 3 weeks in middle school! According to The Washington Post, “With a pH of about 12, similar to that of household ammonia or soap, chemical relaxers are among the most caustic cosmetics products on the market, according to the Environmental Working Group, a nonprofit environmental organization. Along with hair dyes, hair straighteners are the source of more complaints to the Food and Drug Administration’s Office of...

Total Beauty Solutions: Green Tea – More Than Just A Bunch of Leaves I’ve recently given up soda and juice and so, for a while, my selection of beverages had been limited until I discovered one of the world’s greatest beauty drinks… Green Tea. Last week I attended a green tea tasting event to learn from Japanese Tea Docents on how to prepare, brew and serve green tea. Along with a tasty cup of hot goodness I was able to listen in on the ancient history of green tea and how its great health benefits promote health and wellness from the inside out. Wait, You Mean to Tell Me That My Nail Polish Can Affect My Health? I was completely shocked after reading numerous articles about the effects of nail polish on the human endocrine system. Since I was a little girl sitting in the nail salon with my mother, I was mesmerized by the variety of colors I would see displayed on the manicurists wall. How did they get such pretty, sparkly, moments of glamour into those tiny little bottles? I was fortunate that my mom would allow the manicurist to paint my nails and toes. I always chose something pink with sparkles. Trips to the nail salon were part of a bonding ritual between me and my mother. Little did we know, that something we held so sacred was in fact affecting our health.    (more…) Did you like this? Share...

New Cancer Causing Agent from Household Products Found in our Water Scientists have long known about carcinogens in common household items such as cosmetics and cleansers and the dangers they represented when people are exposed to them. Now, a new study is reporting that most of us are also being exposed to a new cancer causing compound in our water supplies which is being created by household items washed down the drain. In the new study, Yale researchers found evidence that common household items such as cleaners, shampoos and detergents are creating a chemical cocktail. These products are combining with a chlorine compound and resulting in a new cancer causing agent in water supplies that comes from sewage treatment plants. The compound is NDMA, which is a nitrosamine. Nitrosamines are known to be...
