Brown Girls Love Samples Too: Why You Need “THE PILLOW BOX”

My pillow box I love samples. I’ve wasted tons of money in the past on products that didn’t work or just didn’t match my skin tone. How many of you have spent more money than you’d like on...

3 Easy Ways to Green Up Your Life Now Source   Going green isn’t rocket science. I promise. You don’t have to spend a lot of money, join a yoga class or eat kale chips every day (unless that’s your thing). Going green and living a more eco-glamorous lifestyle is simply about making small changes to protect our environment and our health so that it becomes an after thought. Here are my suggestions for a few immediate things we can all do to live a little more green.   Ditch the paper towels – Paper towels are a tremendous waste of resources. It’s great to have a roll or two on hand for simple cleaning jobs but I find that I tend to use them frivolously throughout the day when they’re there.  Cloth kitchen towels and bathroom...

Breakfast Beauty: A Recipe For A Healthy Day

Breakfast Beauty: A Recipe For A Healthy Day   Hmmm. What to eat for great health and great skin. Mornings for me are rough. And since I’ve been holding it down in NYC for Fashion Week, between the jet lag and the parties and meeting up with friends, I barely make it out of bed before 7 am. No time for scrambled eggs and slices of canteloupe or fresh strawberries, I’ve become a complete master of the grab and go breakfast. I typically like to mix up what I call an anti-oxidant yogurt parfait. After trying Activia’s Picks yogurt (my faves so far are the harvest peach and strawberry made with real fruit) I got a little creative with the light , yet-filling yogurt and included more natural anti-aging and cancer fighting fruits like mangos, kiwis, blackberries and...

Brown Eco-Bloggers I'm Currently Digging Time has not been on my side I have to admit. Documenting one woman’s journey...

24 Hours to Change the World If everyone could be half as amazing as my friend Joi Sears, the world would be a much butter place. Seriously. The artist, activist, world traveler and my old neighbor during my days in Harlem, is on a mission to save the world and I’m doing my part by making her mission known to all of you. Her organization – Theatre for the Free People – an organization that uses the arts as a vehicle for social change, is raising funds today to end world hunger. Find them today on www.philanthroper.com . They only have ONE DAY ONLY to change the world and support their Food Justice Project. For less than the cost of lunch (<$10) you can help eradicate World Hunger and educate youth all across the globe on how to grow and...

The Most Important Vitamin You’ll EVER Take

The Most Important Vitamin You'll EVER Take Source   Before she was diagnosed with multiple-slerosis my aunt lived a vibrant, active and healthy life. My cousin and I would sit at her feet and listen to stories of her college days, her time as a waitress serving sundae’s in roller skates and dancing to Earth, Wind and Fire with her girlfriends. Now, moving slowly and with a cane in tote, she continues to keep a smile on her face as those memories fade into the distance.  I always wondered, how could this disease that rules her life, have been prevented? As a black girl born and raised in the North West, I don’t get much sun. Thank God that I left for college and spend a lot of time traveling to warmer climates. But for many people of color in the North West...

The Paula Deen Mistake

The Paula Deen Mistake Paula Deen I feel for you. I’m not upset that you’ve been parading around for years cooking some of the most sinful and delectable dishes. I’m not even upset that you’ve build an entire business off of what people love the most: food.   I do, however, believe that you had a responsibility to talk about your diet’s impact on your health. Type 2 diabetes? Really, Paula?   Tell the truth. Were any of you shocked by this news? Living a life of comfort food, butter, sugar and bacon, did you really expect anything less? Sure, I allow myself to cheat every now and again but with this recent news on Paula Deen’s health, I’m sure many folks will start to think twice about how they spend their...

Why Don't Black Girls Go Green?   Source Today I stuffed four Oreos in my mouth. Oh how much I missed thee! Don’t judge me… My life called for it. In the midst of cheating on my New Year’s resolution I starting thinking about all of the ways I’ve struggled over the past few years to make dramatic lifestyle changes. From healthy eating to maintaining a regular workout routine to even living a green lifestyle, it’s a real challenge. When I began this journey I sought out resources and information to make the transition a little easier. I picked up magazines like Natural Living, Whole Body, Organic Spa and other publications that are typically filled with great tips, solutions and resources for living a healthy and natural lifestyle. While the information was...

Another Celebrity, Another Toxic Makeup Line: Lala Vasquez New Collection

Another Celebrity, Another Toxic Makeup Line: Lala Vasquez New Collection As a budding entrepreneur and lover of all this that sparkle I can’t hate on the entity which is Mrs. Lala Vasquez Anthony’s newly found empire. The reality star turned beauty mogul has recently announced the launch of her new makeup line due in February. It’s lovely to see a basketball wife who hasn’t subjected herself to the low-class degradation and embarrassment to black women everywhere her counterparts have.  While Mrs. Anthony is prepping for the launch of her line that caters to women of all skin tones it is a bit of a bitter sweet moment of victory for me. I get stumped in supporting black female entrepreneurs and sticking to my guns about living more of a natural and organic lifestyle. While I’m not...
