Real talk… being natural ain’t easy. People make instant assumptions simply based off the fact you’re living your life sans perm and you’d rather rock a twist out versus a weave. And if you’re a loc rocker like me you’re religion, ethnicity and political involvment is always in question. The men in Harlem are quick to call me a Rasta and back home in Seattle people twist their face up at me when they see me chowing down on some fried chicken at the local spot.

This week’s groceries and incidentals. 20 minutes in & out!
Apparently there are the same 24 hours in a day that have been around since Jesus and his homeboys walked the earth. But I’m convinced that time is sneaking away from us little by little. My task list never gets done and sometimes I look up, the seasons have changed, the month that just felt like it started is coming to a close and I’m still wiping the sweat off my forehead. Needless to say, I either need an assistant or a new way of doing things. I’m betting that the later is going to be my best bet.
I seriously wish I could take a trip and have a robot take my place until I’m fully re-charged. Vacation is always an awakening for me. I... What Propels You?
Greatness isn’t necessarily a trait that we are born with. I fervently believe that you learn how to step into your greatness simply through years of trying, failing, learning and getting back up. When it comes to setting goals and achieving them, I allow myself room to keep growing.
This year I set some pretty remarkable goals and slowly they are coming to fruition. Here’s what’s on my list of goals and achievements I am working to accomplish:
1. Lose 20lbs by summer – I’m changing the way that I eat, tracking my workouts and monitoring my food intake.
2. Complete my book – This has been one of the most daunting tasks. Collecting my thoughts, developing a structured concept and finding... Strategically Leaving Your Worries Behind
In some alternate universe I’m pretty sure that I could be super woman. My days would consist of completed to-do lists, the laundry would get done, I’d get in at least an hour of cardio, my gourmet meals would be made from home and I’d have time to chat and visit with each member of my family and close friends. In a perfect world, I’d get everything done, goals reached in an insanely expedited fashion and still have a life filled with meditation, prayer and wellness hours that help me to maintain my sanity.
You know what I’ve come to realize? An alternate universe isn’t that far-fetched. I can create my own space of worry-free living simply by prioritizing my day and choosing not to worry about minute... When Fashion+Beauty+Health+Education = Environmental Justice

If you’ve ever seen the movies Shirley and Laverne or A League of Their Own then you know Geena Davis. Yesterday, I was part of the audience at Seattle’s Town Hall, listening in on the conversations of how girls can save the world. Actress Geena Davis and Chris Grumm, former CEO of the Women’s Funding Network exchanged ideas on the challenges and solutions to achieving a world where all have equal opportunity, regardless of gender.

As a spectator and self-appointed resident tweeter, I tweeted live anecdotes from the conversation. Check them out here.
What shocked me the most weren’t the statistics on the... Vixen of the Week: Tia Williams – Beauty Editor, Author, Shake Your Beauty Blogger

I have a not-so-secret girl crush on Tracee Ellis Ross and would probably marry her style, sophistication and chicness in a heartbeat if I could get close enough to seduce it. So when the beauty bombshell was pictured at Fashion Week with a crimson mane and a matching lip, I turned my attention from my pre-planned honey blonde hair color inquiries to my stylist and thought about how I could get her hue naturally.
For other ladies thinking about lightening those tresses for a new look as the summer approaches, here’s a great permanent color system that gives the hue without your sacrificing the health of your hair.
Herbatint’s Herbal Hair Color takes the cake in flash crimson red. You can get your...
