Since kindergarten I’ve been a professional sharer. I have no problem sharing clothes, shoes, food, my home and beauty tips with friends, family and strangers alike. But when it comes to my makeup, I’m a little more reserved, as we all should be when it comes to allowing others to use things that are applied to our mouth and eyes.
Are you riding dirty with old mascara, germ-infested eye shadow or lipstick that could be carrying tons of bacteria or viruses? When you’re not clean about your makeup you’re not being clean about your health.
Here are some of the cardinal rules to keeping your makeup safe and drama-free:
1. Toss after 6 months – Don’t hold on to old makeup. It gives me the... Riding Dirty: Sins Against Your Makeup

Before she was diagnosed with multiple-slerosis my aunt lived a vibrant, active and healthy life. My cousin and I would sit at her feet and listen to stories of her college days, her time as a waitress serving sundae’s in roller skates and dancing to Earth, Wind and Fire with her girlfriends.
Now, moving slowly and with a cane in tote, she continues to keep a smile on her face as those memories fade into the distance. I always wondered, how could this disease that rules her life, have been prevented?
As a black girl born and raised in the North West, I don’t get much sun. Thank God that I left for college and spend a lot of time traveling to warmer climates. But for many people of color in the North West... Naturally Chic: Lianne La Havas Natural Curls

My world of music has been taken over by Pandora. So when I couldn’t find the up and coming songstress, writer and beauty Ms. Lianne La Havas on her own independent station, I instantly went to twitter with my rant. Pandora – please create a station for the Netherland beauty who is inspiring me with her gorgeous voice and style!
While I wait for their response (I’ll keep you all posted) here are a few pics of the star. Give her some love and check her out (if you haven’t already) on Facebook.

Immediately after taking stock of what I’ve accomplished thus far in 2012 as it relates to my goals I realized a few things about myself. I am in fact a hater. I envy Beyonce’s seemingly unnatural talent and perfect body, one of my colleagues gorgeous locks that never seem to have a bad hair day and my best friend’s ability to stay simple and organized.
I’m impatient, unrealistic, a big dreamer which often leads to impulsive decisions, and often find myself in a frenzy of when and how to begin and complete projects within a timely manner. Those things that I don’t possess I find in others and tend to “hate” on them for their ability to not be me.
Slowly, I’m coming to terms with... Vixen of the Week: Abby Omoruyi – Stylist & Blogger
She’s a friend I met last year in Harlem and although we’ve never had the opportunity to catch up again, every now and then we have a chance encounter to get to know each other in a new light. Abby’s impeccable style lights up the room when she walks in and her infectous smile makes you want to borrow what ever lip color she is rocking at the moment.

What do you love most about what you do?
Well I love the fact that I am able to call this my full time job, it’s very satisfying.
Why did you decide to get into your industry? What sparked your interest?
I’ve always loved anything... The Paula Deen Mistake
Paula Deen I feel for you. I’m not upset that you’ve been parading around for years cooking some of the most sinful and delectable dishes. I’m not even upset that you’ve build an entire business off of what people love the most: food.
I do, however, believe that you had a responsibility to talk about your diet’s impact on your health. Type 2 diabetes? Really, Paula?
Tell the truth. Were any of you shocked by this news? Living a life of comfort food, butter, sugar and bacon, did you really expect anything less? Sure, I allow myself to cheat every now and again but with this recent news on Paula Deen’s health, I’m sure many folks will start to think twice about how they spend their... Surrounding Yourself With Beauty
A few nights ago I made my way through the Seattle snow and joined my friend Brittney in an afternoon of girl talk, red velvet cake indulgence and a plate of greens. In the middle of our evening pow-wow the popular show Love & Hip Hop came one. I’ve never seen it but have heard many a great deal about the ratchet behavior of the women on the show. Ultimately I elected to steer clear of the drama but tonight I had to watch.
Without being judgmental I felt a tremendous amount of sadness for many of these women who seem to be blinded by false realities of life. When you take away the status, the bling, the weave, the makeup, the drama, where do you stand as a woman? There is something to be said about self-respect, love and... Giving Back Beauty – Recycling Your Old Cosmetics
Our cosmetics are like those terrible boyfriends we never knew were terrible to begin with. Sure they bring us joy, excitement and look good in public, but then they turn and can no longer give us that same zest they were able to in the beginning. And like a bad boyfriend we kick our old mascaras, shadows, bronzers and the like to the curb where they end up in a landfill to die but not perish.
The truth is, everyday cosmetic packaging accounts for nearly one-third of our landfill waste. While some of our empty (or nearly empty) product packaging can in fact be recycled. The more we know, the more we can do for our environment.
Here’s a few places you can drop off those old products to be re-used. Give back beauty and ditch letting...
