About Sherrell

I’m Sherrell Dorsey… a professional beauty writer, speaker, environmental activista and over-all organic product junkie.

My concept of beauty developed at a young age when I began working in my Aunt’s hair salon, sweeping, braiding hair and learning all there was to know about preserving the image I wanted to show the world. Beauty is in my blood. But for me it’s a lifestyle, not something that can be purchased, applied or washed away.

When I began my career in the world of beauty, I only had one mission in mind: to live authentically beautiful and show others how to do so as well.

So what exactly is an Organic Beauty Vixen?

I developed the concept of  Organic Beauty vixen after doing a lot of reading and soul searching on what beauty means to me. I came across stories and images of women from all around the world who practiced beauty rituals passed down from their ancestors who used the earth as a way to maintain their skin and hair. To me, all of these women were powerful, beautiful, and cunning. The original beauty vixens.

As a believer in using safe, non-toxic, natural and organic personal-care products, I wanted to follow the idea of non-traditional beauty and become an expert in organic skin care.

Why did you create this blog? I originally created this blog as a way to centralize the video posts and product reviews I began to share with my family and friends about non-toxic products and the lifestyle of natural and organic living that I am trying to live. But now, I see myself using Organic Beauty Vixen as a way to connect with women like me who define natural beauty and challenge the ideology of the way that beauty is currently being portrayed in the media and in our own personal understandings.

I’m definitely not a size 6, by no means am I dainty (although I aspire to be) and I’m probably as insecure as the woman sitting next to me on the train hiding the gap in her teeth. I believe that unconventional beauty is the ultimate beauty and that there is a goddess in all of us that reaches into the blood and beauty rituals of the Aztecs, the smokey eyes of Cleopatra and head-wraps of women in the West Indies.

What’s the overall mission of OBV? This blog is about helping others to learn about re-connecting with the earth through safe, non-toxic beauty products and solutions in addition to being a journey in discovering ourselves as goddesses of the natural earth. I like to say that I show brown girl’s how to live beautifully in an eco-glam way.

Please join me on this journey by sharing the natural beauty rituals taught to you by your grandmother, the meditation methods you learned from your mother and the self-love you develop from looking back at yourself in the mirror everyday. From one brown gal to another let’s unleash the Organic Beauty Vixen in each of us.
