There are probably a few hundred people I stalk on both Twitter and Instagram to feed my need for thought leading and action-oriented change that isn’t tied up in a perpetual state of attention whoring. They use the world of social media to create impact as an alternative to self-promotion, and for this I am grateful. Not that I mind a few meal shots and shoe cam photo ops once in a while (in fact I’ve pinned more than a few myself), but come on, we can’t all be that narcissistic and self-serving all of the time, right?
Seriously speaking, the health of our spirits, our planet and our commitment of service to our communities is in a state of emergency. I’m sure you’ve noticed, or if not, hopefully you’ll start paying attention and looking alert. Those standing on these issues get my retweets and reposts without fail.
The very visible and highly respected entity that is Majora Carter breathes fire into every step I take in advocating environmental justice and responsibility. Equal parts entrepreneur, sustainability advocate and glass ceiling breaker, Majora’s work and leadership in environmental justice issues has set the trail for my work (and those also walking this path) to begin. The battles she’s fought are now the case studies I’ll use to prepare for the next round of obstacles I’ll encounter on this journey (see Fracking and Safe Cosmetics). Because of the career she’s navigated for herself it gives me hope that I too can balance my life’s work around values that are most important to me.
This little blog of mine gets responses from beauty and fashion girls that are making sustainable choices. My workshops are educating a small few whom that in turn are educating a small few. The progression continues.
Thank you Majora for paying it forward. http://www.majoracartergroup.com
